Why
In the 20 years between 2001 and 2020, the suicide rate among Veterans ages of 55 and 74 rose 58.2%. Veterans ages 55 and older have great strength, resilience, and wisdom. At the same time, many older Veterans experience changes in health, memory, independence, or relationships that may lead to distress or isolation. In some cases, these challenges can lead to hopelessness and even a wish to die or to take one’s life. Preventing Suicide Among Older Veterans Brochure   HERO is dedicated to helping relieve these primary causes of Suicide among our Senior Veterans.
Long Term Care and Housing Benefits

Long Term Care and Housing Benefits

Having a place to live where they will receive not only basic sustenance but specific care for health concerns up to and including Memory Care will help alleviate issues that result from changes in health and memory. With these basic needs met the Veteran can enjoy some level of Independence. HERO will provide qualification and submission of the Veterans Aid and Attendance benefit free of charge. This VA program would provide a life-long benefit to assist in paying for the needed care and a place to live.

Life Enrichment Programs

Life Enrichment Programs

Poor relationships and a feeling of Isolation are almost always contributing factors to Suicide. Assisted Living communities try to fill this gap with Activities to encourage the Veteran to build relationships with other residents. HERO will take that one step forward. We tend to group with people like ourselves. Veterans are a sub-culture and have unique experiences that others may have trouble understanding. We have seen the importance and benefit of bringing Veterans together in activities that they enjoy. We would like to follow in the footsteps of a successful organization, Oath, it brings younger veterans to gather of a variety of outdoor activities and has proven to have a positive impact on the veteran's lives long term.
